EXT. LAKE ELSINORE - SUNSET

The town is small, rural and filled with stores that double for one another. The Chimes Antique & Liquor. The Diamond Casino and 1st Baptist Church. Fat Fred's Ice Cream and Gas.

The TOWNFOLK glare at the '60 Plymouth Valiant that putts through their town. The driver is EDGAR MOSLEY, a 30-something wanderer. Next to him is CHERYL, his bulldog.

EDGAR
(singing through discomfort)
I gotta gal and a bulldog too. My gal
don't love me but my bulldog do.

EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF ELSINORE - SUNSET The Valiant putts past a sign along a two lane highway. It reads: 'NOW LEAVING LAKE ELSINORE - NEXT TOWN __ MILES.' The number of miles is no longer indicated.

INT. VALIANT - MOVING - NIGHT

Fog is thick. Edgar squints to see while smoking a cigarette. He sees something. The cigarette falls in his lap. He flails about. CRASH! He brakes. Cheryl WHINES.

EXT. HIGHWAY - NIGHT

A BODY in the road. Edgar checks his cell. No service. He looks in both directions. Cheryl sniffs the body. Fear and insanity inundate Edgar's face. The body is of an OLD MAN with a sweet face. He puts him in the trunk.

EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF ELSINORE - NIGHT

The Valiant re-enters town.

EXT. THE CHIMES ANTIQUES & LIQUORS - NIGHT

Edgar pulls into the parking lot. He goes to the pay phone. The receiver cord has been cut. He notices the shadow of a Man in a rocking chair on The Chimes porch. He approaches. The man strikes a match to light his pipe. It is the same OLD MAN Edgar put in his trunk! Edgar runs to his car and opens the trunk. No body! He SLAMS the trunk. The Old Man stands before him.

OLD MAN
You lost, boy?
